ROTC

The cadets completed their last stop of the annual JROTC DC Trip at the Gettysburg National Battlefield, which was perhaps one of the three most important, and largest battles of the American Civil War.  While there, they saw the Orientation show and Cyclorama which is a 360-degree, hand-painted canvas longer than a football field and higher than a four-story building created in 1884 to commemorate Pickett's Charge, the climactic event that happened on Day 3 of the battle.  Following the film and cyclorama show, they visited the battlefield and toured it on the bus with Denny, a very knowledgeable and experienced Park Service Guide.  Stopping at several places, the cadets left the bus and visited some of the monuments and key spots of the battlefield.  They climbed the ninety-five feet high Longstreet Observation Tower and were able to view Little Round Top, The Devils Den, The Peach Orchard and Wheatfield, all critical events during the battle; manned a 10-lb Parrot artillery piece and went through fire commands; and stood at the Angle, the spot that was the culminating point of Pickett's Charge and what historians call the "High Water Mark" of the Confederacy.  Following the visit to the battlefield, the cadets stopped at the museum and gift shop.
