The Youngstown City School District Superintendent Advisory Councils include teachers, parents, and scholars—vital stakeholders in shaping the educational landscape of YCSD. These councils serve as a space for open dialogue, sharing ideas and thoughts, and advising on critical district matters. Fostering relationships is among the principal priority of the superintendent, and the advisory councils are an avenue to strengthen those connections for the betterment of our district. Council members are champions of Youngstown City Schools and lend their voices to the Youngstown Excellence Experience, making YCSD a place of destination in the Mahoning Valley.

YCSD educates the scholars of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. Their input is crucial to have insight into their educational experience and everyday experiences in their school buildings. Scholars in grades 7-12 that serve on the Superintendent Scholar Advisory Council may meet virtually in school or in person once a month on the last Friday of each month (tentative). Scholars may:

  • Advise on scholar-related programs, activities, technology platforms, and communications to use scholar voices.

  • Be an advocate for other scholars and shine a light on school culture.

  • Have the chance to participate in extracurricular activities and workshops aimed at college and career readiness, career exploration, and community outreach.

  • Represent their school and other scholars by providing feedback and solutions.

  • The council will include one scholar from each school in grades 7-12. Scholars must complete an application and be supported by either a parent or school principal.
