The Golden Bears JROTC program delivered an outstanding performance at the McKinley Drill Meet in Canton on Saturday, March 22nd, finishing second overallā€”falling just two points short of first place. The competition was fierce, and in a twist of fate, East's LET 1 Color Guard tied for first place, only to lose the top spot due to a coin toss tiebreaker. Without that toss, East would have claimed first place overall.

Event Results:

  • Varsity Color Guard ā€“ 3rd Place

  • LET 1 Color Guard ā€“ 2nd Place (All first-year students)

  • Varsity Drill ā€“ 1st Place (Judges noted it was one of the best drill demonstrations they had ever seen and encouraged the team to compete at nationals.)

  • LET 1 Drill ā€“ 1st Place (All first-year students)

  • Squad Armed Drill ā€“ 1st Place (First time East competed in this event)

  • Academic Challenge ā€“ 2nd Place (A testament to the dedication of Eastā€™s teachers)

  • Raider Challenge ā€“ 3rd Place (Obstacle course event)

The team placed in every event, showcasing the hard work and dedication of its Cadets. Special recognition goes to SFC Sam Wolford, who stepped up in the absence of a sick team leader, ensuring the Cadets remained focused and prepared. His leadership has been a valuable addition to the program this year.

East Highā€™s JROTC will next compete at home on March 8, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The competition is open to the public and will feature the same events, plus a LET 1 Armed Drill Competition. The team looks forward to continuing its success and representing East with pride.
